In May 12-13, the final of the 8^th China Petroleum Engineering Design Competition (CPEDC) was held in Beijing under the joint organization of China Academic Degrees & Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC), Children & Youth Science Center of China Association for Science & Technology, Chinese National Committee for World Petroleum Council, Chinese Petroleum Society and Chinese Petroleum Society of Education. SWPU sent 15 teams and won 10 national first prizes, ranking the first in award quantity and value among all Chinese universities.

2529 teams in 53 universities and research institutes from China and overseas signed up the 8^th CPEDC. A total of 20 first prizes, 54 second prizes and 143 third prizes were awarded.

Present in the award ceremony were Liu He, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and vice general engineer of CNPC Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration & Development, Liyang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and vice general engineer of Sinopec, Xie Yuhong, general geologist of CNOOC, Jia Chengzao, academian of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and honorary director of CPEDC Expert Panel, Gao Deli, academian of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of CPEDC Expert Panel, Yu Mingxiang, vice president of Chinese Petroleum Society, Zhao Yu, director assistant of CDGDC, and directors from Schlumberger.
