On June 21st, SWPU held a grand graduation and degree conferral ceremony for the class of 2018. The entire SWPU leadership, members of the University Degree Evaluation Committee, representatives of faculties, all doctoral advisors, representatives of graduates’ parents and all graduates participated in the ceremony.
Invited guests to the ceremony include Zou Caineng, class of 83 alumnus from Petroleum Geology and Exploration, vice director of CNPC Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration and Development and academian of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Senior Colonel Dong Shaotang, class of 93 alumnus from Industrial Chemistry and Chief of Staff of Sichuan General Fire Brigade.
Principal Zhao Jinzhou Delivering a Speech
Principal Zhao Jinzhou delivered a speech in the ceremony. “SWPU is your logo that never fades,” said Zhao, “Each one of you is a name card of our university. Your achievements are your alma mater’s achievements, and are our great country’s achievements. I wish your endeavors will bear fruit in the life that belongs to you.”
Academian Zou Caineng told graduates to remember how they’ve been cultivated in the university, bring honor to our alma mater, contribute to our great country, and make efforts in the rejuvenation of the our nation.
Dong Shaotang said, “You are successful if the society needs you, and you are happy if other people need you. I hope you will realize the value of your life soon with the trust of alma mater.”
Mariia Smirmova, an exchange student from Ulyanovsk State University in Russia, delivered a speech on behalf of international students. She said, “I was very delighted during the year studying at SWPU. I appreciate the nice environment and learning platfrom the univerty offers to international students. No matter where we go, we are always a member of Southwest Petroleum University.” (Li Yang)
