On the morning of November 1^st, Southwest Petroleum University held grand celebrations for the 60^th anniversary and “Double First Class” Initiative Promotion.

Distinguished guests attending the conference include Governor of Sichuan Province Yin Li, CAE academician Zhou Shouwei, Vice Governor of Sichuan Province Yang Xingping, Mayor of Chengdu Luo Qiang, President of Sichuan University Li Yanrong, former CPNG Vice President Zhang Yongyi, SinoPec Vice President Li Yong, CNOOC Vice President Chen Bi, CAE academicians Su Yinao, Peng Suping, Gu Dazhao, Luo Pingya, Hu Jianyi, Kang Yuzhu, He Duohui, Duoji (Zang nationality), Hou Baorong, Zhao Wenzhi, Kang Hongpu, Wu Qiang, Wang Shuangming, Wang Guofa and Sun Jinsheng, CAS academicians Gao Deli and Zou Caineng, CNOOC General Geologist Xie Yuhong, former CPNG Vice President Luo Yingjun.

Overseas guests attending the conference include Presidents and Vice Presidents from the University of New Orleans and Delaware State University in the US，Kazan Federal University and Ufa State Oil Technical University in Russia，University of Calgary and University of Regina in Canada and other 11 universities. Besides, Consuls from Consulate General of Israel in Chengdu and Consulate General of Thailand in Chengdu were present on the scene.

Yin Li, Governor of Sichuan Province, addressed a speech at the conference. He highly praised Southwest Petroleum University for cultivating over 170,000 talents in the field of petroleum engineering: a large number of excellent experts and professional technicians have been educated; unprecedented achievements in petroleum exploitation have been made and substantial contributions to the national development and local economic progress have been applauded. Yin anticipated that Southwest Petroleum University enhanced scientific creativity, integrated industry, university and research and promoted commercial use of scientific research achievements, thus making greater contribution to our motherland. He stated that the Sichuan Provincial Government would support the university in her course of reform and development as ever.

Zhao Jinzhou, President of Southwest Petroleum University, outlined the university’s 60-year history. He expressed great determination in deepening the reforms in an overall manner.

On behalf of the overseas universities, President of University of Regina Dave Button addressed a speech. He reviewed multi-dimensional cooperation between the University of Regina and Southwest Petroleum University: visiting scholars, joint projects, etc.. Under different cultural background, both sides embrace common dreams: to cultivate the talents, to conduct scientific research and to serve the service. In the future, the two universities are expected to work together so as to enhance cooperation and to achieve a brighter prospect.

At the conference, delegates of four sides, namely Sichuan Provincial government, China National Petroleum Group Co., Ltd., China Petrochemical Group Co., Ltd. and China National Offshore Oil Group Co., Ltd., signed “strategical Cooperation Framework Agreement on Building World Class Universities (Southwest Petroleum University)”, in which quite a few fields, including disciplinary construction, talent cultivation, international communication and cooperation, etc., are involved.
